IPNstock.com is a gateway that provides direct access to fresh content from participating photographers, rep firms and agencies. It empowers members to run their own business through an e-commerce solution designed from three perspectives: from a photographer's point of view, a technology perspective and from our knowledge of the stock industry. In a changing marketplace for photography, where the 50/50 split model is moving towards 60/40 in favor of the stock agency, IPN reverses that trend with the most favorable split that exists today for the participant.

IPN is the portal to the collections of all network members, employing some of the best features on the web today including light boxes, e-mail functionality for marketing, and real-time reporting. The IPN model puts the member in control, allowing you to know who your customers are and what they are looking for. IPN not only provides a bigger piece of the pie, it also allows members to see sales numbers, real-time reporting of site traffic and, more importantly, it helps promote members as individuals.

The IPN business model is unique. All network members have an individual, unique web site to independently promote their work. Additionally, the network provides a referral process when searching for images across all member sites. Clients can enter the network via an image search on one members' site. If they don't find the image, they will be directed to the other network members, netting a finders fee for the original member. Quality and quantity bring clients to our site. As a group we bring clients to each other, with in most cases, 80% of every sale going directly to our members.

As part of VNU's Marketing/Media and Arts Group, which includes PDN, IPNstock is bolstered by multi-level marketing and promotional muscle. VNU will market the site directly through regularly scheduled e-mail campaigns to photo buyers and creatives around the world, print ads in trade publications, special events and direct mail campaigns. Many of the features on the site have been created to market and help drive traffic. The postcard feature brings users to the site. The use of light boxes as tools by members, allows for an efficient manner of sending slide shows and promotions to clients.

Images can be uploaded to the server from Netscape or Microsoft browsers or by FTP. This real-time ability to update the database means that timely images are fresh, and new images can reach clients faster. For large amounts of images, IPN will also take batches of 100 or more photographs for uploading into the system on CD or DVD. These images will be uploaded directly into the database in a fast and efficient manner. Once the images are on the system, an email notification goes out to the photographer or site administrator. Any data files in standard formats associated with the images can also be uploaded at this time. Further data entry or updating can take place online at any time.

This can be a non-exclusive contract, however image exclusive arrangements are preferred because of rights control issues.

IPN requires scans of high quality to service the needs of the photo buyers: 40 megabytes as a bare minimum but 60 megabytes is preferred.

Several tools available to you will help you accomplish this task. You can create slide shows and light tables to e-mail to editors or clients. You can easily add audio commentary to your images to help sell them. You can also view real-time tracking of what people are searching for and adding to their light boxes, and also what they aren't finding on your site and what is selling. The site will even help you manage an e-mail address book, adding to it anyone signing up with the site. You can send out e-mail newsletters announcing new stock, slide shows, or whatever you want digitally to clients.

This is one of the best parts about this system. It requires only an Internet connection and a browser. Everything else is on the web in a simple-to-use interface. The site will even convert any digital image you upload to the right format and compression, and create all necessary image sizes. You just have to type in the caption under the automatically created thumbnail.
